Citrus County Hosts Speaker Rubio

NFIB/Florida was honored to host Speaker of the House of Representatives Marco Rubio to the Crystal River Country Club for an evening reception. At the event, NFIB members had the opportunity to meet the speaker and talk one-on-one with him about issues that matter to them.

House Speaker Marco Rubio (right) visits with NFIB/FL members about small business issues. The main topic of discussion at the reception was property taxes and runaway government spending. Rubio agreed with members that while Amendment 1 was a good first step toward property tax relief, more work needed to be done to fix the errant system.

“I was disappointed because it didn’t go far enough,” Rubio said. “I hope the next chapter (in tax reform) is meaningful.”

Rubio also discussed the challenges small business owners face and conveyed to members that he understands that relief from the burdens placed on businesses by the government is needed.

“Small business struggles with all the compliance costs, small business struggles to even get their head above water,” Rubio said.

Rubio has been a supporter of NFIB during his tenure, and continues to promote the importance of being an active member.

“NFIB does a great job of being the voice of independent business. It’s not the voice of Wall Street, it’s the voice of main street,” Rubio said. “It’s important that you continue to support NFIB and it’s important that NFIB continues to work with us.”

NFIB thanks Rubio for attending this important meeting, as well as the event sponsors, Hartland Homes and Instant Images.
