Dear Representative:
On behalf of the National Federation of Independent Business, the nation's leading small business advocacy organization, I urge you to support H.R. 3548, the Plain Language in Government Communications Act. NFIB has consistently advocated for common sense approaches to ensure that rules are easier to read and understand, and this legislation will help accomplish that goal.
The most frequently cited problem by small business when complying with federal regulations is unclear or confusing instructions. H.R. 3548 requires the federal government to write documents using simple and easy-to-understand language, and common documents like tax returns and veterans benefit forms are covered by this legislation. This bill can save America's small businesses time and money that are currently wasted on trying to make sense of unclear government letters, publications, forms, notices and instructions.
By requiring the government to use plain language in its communications, this bill has the potential to save our members hours on needless paperwork, resulting in increased productivity. H.R. 3548 would require the government to make sure that small businesses need to be able to recognize what they must do to comply with a regulation.
Instead of spending long hours interpreting confusing federal regulations, this legislation would allow small business owners to focus on running and growing their business. Passage of H.R. 3548 will be considered an NFIB Key Small Business Vote for the 110th Congress.
Sincerely,
Dan Danner
