New Poll Measures Small Business IT Usage

NFIB's Research Foundation surveyed small business owners about their use of information technology for the latest Small Business Poll. Here are some of the poll's key findings:

87 percent are connected to the Internet by a high-speed connection, and 90 percent have one or more work e-mail addresses.

91 percent of small business owners have one or more computers that they use for business purposes.

52 percent of the small employer population has a business Web site, and 16 percent of those sites are capable of conducting e-commerce.

The most common problems small employers encounter with their IT equipment are: filtering spam from e-mail (44 percent), hardware crashes (40 percent), back-up and/or data loss (37 percent) and updating computer security (35 percent).
