Senate committee approves spending caps legislation
The Spending Caps Study Committee on Tuesday gave favorable reports to S.1220, the spending caps enabling legislation, and S.718, the state spending caps bill.

The Committee sent the bills to the Senate Finance Committee. Sen. Larry Martin said it was important for the bills to travel together. S.718 will require a two-thirds vote from the Senate and House before the constitutional amendment question can be added to the voting ballot in the November election

South Carolina travelers get Real ID reprieve
Washington has given South Carolina an extension to comply with the federal Real ID law. The reprieve helps air travelers, who faced more intense screening, and ordinary people, who faced the possibility of blocked access to federal buildings beginning May 11. Gov. Mark Sanford has said Real ID amounts to an unfunded mandate that would cost South Carolina $116 million to implement. WIS News 10 in Columbia has posted a story.

Tell your members of Congress to pass the "Save our Seasonal Business Act"
House Resolution 1843 and Senate Bill 988, the "Save our Seasonal Business Act," would extend the H-2B visa returning worker exemption that protects and promotes border security; rewards employers and workers who abide by the law; and mandates that foreign workers can fill only those jobs that remain unfilled by American workers.

The bill would exempt past participants in the H-2B program from counting towards the 66,000 statutory annual limit. These workers should be able to return to previous employers that cannot locate local workers. NFIB urges Congress to pass this act immediately. Failure to do so will threaten the livelihoods of thousands of small businesses and the jobs of thousands of American workers. Send a message to your members of Congress urging them to pass this legislation NOW!
