Scores of small business owners join NFIB in Clarksville, Montgomery County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The National Federation of Independent Business says about 100 small businesses in Clarksville and Montgomery County have joined the state's leading small business association during its spring membership drive, underlining the strength of the region's small business community.

"Recently, the U.S. Census Bureau listed Clarksville as the nation's 10th fastest growing metropolitan area, and that's certainly reflected in its flourishing small business community," said Jim Brown, state director of NFIB/Tennessee. "Free enterprise is alive and well in Montgomery County."

Over the past several weeks, NFIB has enrolled approximately 100 small businesses in the area, including 31 who joined in a single week. "That shows a real spirit of entrepreneurship," said Robert Scott, sales director for NFIB/Tennessee. "When you have so many small businesses join in such a short period of time, that means you have a lot of entrepreneurs who want to get involved, who want to have a voice in what's happening at the statehouse and in Congress."

NFIB, which is headquartered in Nashville, has offices in all 50 state capitals and Washington, D.C. NFIB is Tennessee's and the nation's leading small business organization, representing the interests of small business owners on issues ranging from healthcare to tax reform.

"Lawmakers sometimes think one business is the same as any other, but that's not true," Brown said. "Small businesses aren't the same as big businesses. They don't always have the same problems or same needs. NFIB's mission is to promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their small businesses."

NFIB has about 8,500 members in Tennessee. Of those, about 70 percent have fewer than 10 employees.
