Business leaders will advise Alabama's largest small business group on key issues
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The National Federation of Independent Business has named five people to its 35-member Leadership Council, a volunteer panel that advises the state's leading small business association on key state and federal legislative issues. They are:
- Les Barnett of Barnett Farms, 301 Brandyrun Road W, Mobile
- Shane Coker of Coker's Body Shop, 217 Bridge Ave., Northport
- Linda Hammer of George S. Hammer General Contractors, Samson
- Greg Powell of Fi-Plan Partners, 5825 Feldspar Way, Birmingham
- Janet W. Seaman of Seaman Timber Co., Montevallo
"NFIB is the voice of small business in Montgomery and Washington, D.C.," said Rosemary Elebash, state director of NFIB/Alabama. "Unlike other business groups, we base our public policy decisions on input from our members. The Leadership Council is a key part of that process.
"The men and women who volunteer to serve on the NFIB council are leaders in their communities," Elebash said. "They represent Main Street Alabama, which is the heart of Alabama's economy. Small businesses create most of the state's net new jobs, and they bring dynamic and innovative ideas to the marketplace.
"The NFIB members who serve on the Leadership Council not only advise us on issues affecting small business owners but also are strong advocates for small businesses, telling our story to state and federal lawmakers," Elebash said.
New members are nominated by the state director and Leadership Council members and elected by the council.
