Sherry Winch, vice president of Fowler Products, and owner Mark Fowler recently attended an NFIB/Ohio Leadership Council meeting in Columbus. |
Custom-made, high-quality products are the foundation for Fowler Products, Inc. Based out of Crestline, Ohio, Fowler Products has been manufacturing quality plastic extrusions for over three decades. Owner and operator Mark Fowler says it's FPI's "focus on research and development, quality control and manufacturing" that allows them to provide their customers with products that are both consistent and reliable.
Founded in 1976 by Russell Fowler, FPI originally started by developing PVC tubing for area businesses. Over time, however, their operation has expanded to a more national market as they continue to offer comprehensive engineered materials and profiles. Based in Ohio, FPI is uniquely positioned to offer a central location to customers anywhere in the United States.
Being a concerned business owner, Mark Fowler decided to become an NFIB member in 1990.
"It's amazing the number and variety of small businesses that are represented by the NFIB, and how each one has a voice within the larger organization," Mark commented when asked how NFIB first caught his eye. Noticing how the state and federal government largely affect business, Mark worked to become an activist within the organization.
As a member of NFIB's Leadership Council, Mark works to advance the interests of small business on a state level.
"Looking back on all I've been involved with, I can only say that it has been fun and an experience," Mark adds. Through various activist work such as hosting local meetings, meeting with legislators, and writing on issues of interest, Mark is able to ensure that his interests, and the interests of other business owners, are not overlooked.
However, he understands that there is still a lot of work to be done in order to protect the welfare of small business.
"When it comes to the government, it's everything," Mark joked. "Whether it's regulation, taxes or any other legislation, the biggest challenge is keeping my business out of governmental control as much as possible. My goal is to keep small business as small business."
Of course, keeping FPI a small business is what Mark finds most appealing about being a business owner. "It allows me the opportunity to manage my own life while positively impacting others, which is what I truly love."
