Take action NOW to defeat HB 40 and SB 344, known as the Flexible Leave Act
The bill requires employers that offer any kind of leave policy to allow employees to use it to care for a sick immediate family member. While many small businesses make every effort to accommodate valuable employees during times of need or crisis, this legislation is an attempt by state government to micromanage your business and the relationship you build with your employees.
The federal Family and Medical Leave Act currently covers employers with more than 50 workers. The Maryland Flexible Leave Act could have no provision to exempt small employers, placing a heavy burden on small businesses who can't afford new mandates from Annapolis.
Government does not need to micro manage small business owners' benefit plans or workplace.
Contact your lawmakers and tell them to let you run your business and manage the befits you provide to your employees.
Not sure who your lawmakers are? You can locate your elected officials online through the Maryland General Assembly's Web site.
