NFIB Hosts Health Reform Forum
03/19/2008

NFIB hosted a forum Wednesday featuring leading health policy experts to discuss the pros and cons of individual mandates in the healthcare marketplace.

Healthcare is not only a critical issue for small business, but it is also the leading issue this election season, and reform is imminent. Held in Washington, D.C., forum attendees heard from leading health-policy experts including:

  • Michael Cannon, director of Health Policy Studies at the Cato Institute;
  • Sherry Glied, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University;
  • Peter Harbage, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress; and
  • Bob Moffit, Ph.D., director of the Center for Health Policy Studies at the Heritage Foundation.

Fixing healthcare for small business means it will be fixed for America, which is why NFIB recently launched Solutions Start Here, the largest campaign of its kind undertaken by NFIB. The campaign will engage and activate the small business community, and urge policymakers to deliver real and meaningful healthcare reform for small business. To kick off the campaign, NFIB sent a letter to the presidential candidates challenging them to develop reform proposals that support the backbone of the U.S. economy--small businesses.

Earlier this year NFIB released its 10 "Small Business Principles for Healthcare Reform," designed to be the small business framework and foundation for comprehensive healthcare reform efforts. NFIB will continue to drive this debate and meet with lawmakers and key stakeholders to ensure they understand the unique needs of small business and the impact reform will have on its livelihood.
