SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The National Federation of Independent Business/California released the following statement today in reaction to Speaker Nunez's SBX3 9 proposal.
"California small businesses cannot afford a tax increase that will further drive up the cost of business through government-imposed higher fuel costs," said John Kabateck, NFIB/CA executive director. "Considering that gas prices have risen an average of 46 cents in the past several weeks, the audacity of imposing a new tax that will drive up prices is mind-boggling."
"We continue to say that California has a spending problem and the budget deficit must be addressed by a review of all programs to ensure that the state is running as efficiently as possible. At times like these, government, much like small business owners, must carefully evaluate their spending and adjust them as needed to stay afloat during tough financial times."
