State Immigration Laws
Many of the problems faced by Michigan small business owners are the result of rules and regulations. Although these rules come from laws that enable state agencies to develop them, there is often a serious disconnect between what the Legislature intended in the law and what the state agency actually requires via the subsequent rules. Past checks and balances on an agencies power to develop rules have been eliminated by a series of court decisions. Since that time, the Legislature's role in checking overzealous state agencies has been diminished to the point of almost no effect. The most obvious and egregious example of an agency run amok is the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, continued attempts to promulgate a state-based ergonomics standard for Michigan business that would be a job-killer for manufacturers and other businesses.
NFIB will be working with Democrats and Republicans in the state Legislature to restore legislative oversight power over state agencies.
