YEF Forms New Partnership
02/ 11/ 2008

The McKelvey Foundation, which was created to offer scholarships to young people with entrepreneurial talents, has joined forces with NFIB's Young Entrepreneur Foundation. Together the foundations plan to fund 25 NFIB/McKelvey scholarships valued at $2,000 per award, as part of the 2008 YEF Awards program.

To fund these awards, the McKelvey Foundation has agreed to match $1,000 donations made by NFIB members to the YEF Awards program. These scholarships will be awarded to high-school seniors who have started businesses and created employment opportunities in their communities. The NFIB/McKelvey scholarships will be awarded in addition to more than 400 $1,000 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards that will be distributed this year.

Andy McKelvey founded the McKelvey Foundation after his own entrepreneurial spirit guided him into owning several different successful businesses, including reopening a local movie theater near his college campus and starting a telephone marketing company that has expanded to become the acclaimed job search engine Monster.com.

"Being an entrepreneur makes you realize just how possible the impossible may actually be," McKelvey says. "All you need is the right mindset and what I feel is the secret to success: timing. We hope the McKelvey Foundation's partnership with NFIB's Young Entrepreneur Foundation can provide young entrepreneurs with a dash of encouragement that will help these young people continue to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams."
