SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The National Federation of Independent Business/California released the following statement about the Senate Health Committee's vote Jan. 28 on ABX1 1:
"Small business owners can breathe a sigh of relief with the defeat of ABX1 1 in the Senate Health committee," said NFIB/California Executive Director John Kabateck. "Now the difficult task of tackling the real issues facing health care begins again. We urge the governor and Legislature to take the time to sit down and have an honest conversation about affordability and adequate funding -- issues that affect small business and all Californians, which must be addressed in order for true health care reform to take place."
In a recent study, NFIB's Research Foundation found that ABX1 1 would cause 41,000 small business jobs to be lost over the first five years of enactment -- with the greatest job loss occurring in entry-level jobs in retail, trade, accommodation and food services, and construction. Moreover, ABX1 1 would result in an $8.2 billion loss to the California economy over that same five-year period.
