NFIB: Your 2008 Elections Information Source
11/ 30/ 2007

NFIB works to keep you informed heading into the 2008 elections, providing various ways to get involved, take political action and follow the candidates' campaigns and stances on issues important to small business.

To that end, NFIB kicked off its first ever Tuesday Town Halls for the 2008 presidential election on Oct. 16 with U.S. Sen. John McCain.

The Tuesday Town Halls are an exciting new venture for NFIB, using teleforums that provide an effective and efficient way for members to hear from and interact with candidates and elected officials. The members-only town halls function much like a radio call-in show, giving members who join the call a chance to ask presidential candidates questions live on the air.

After Sen. McCain, confirmed participants included former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Oct. 30, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on Nov. 6, and former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson on Nov. 13. In addition to the confirmed candidates, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, former U.S. Sen. John Edwards, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson were also invited to speak in the series, and NFIB continued to work at press time to secure their participation.

The town halls have been a hit with members, who were pleased to be told by Sen. McCain that “NFIB is the heart of small business in America.” If you did not get a chance to join any of the town halls, an audio archive of all the teleforums is available to members at www.NFIB.com/tuesdaytownhalls.

NFIB is also keeping you informed at your desktop, recently launching the 2008 Presidential Election Center at www.NFIB.com/2008ElectionCenter for members only. This highly informative Web site is a one-stop shop where you can go to stay informed about the elections and the top candidates vying for the presidency, all with a unique small-business perspective.

Important features on the site include biographical information on the top presidential candidates, their positions on small-business issues and a news center with the latest news gathered from conventional media and the blogosphere. Designed specifically for NFIB members, the site also includes significant voter resources, including early voting and absentee ballot information, links to voter registration and state primary information.

One of the more confusing aspects of the 2008 campaign is the ever-changing primary calendar. As states jockey for increased political significance, primary dates are being set earlier and earlier. NFIB is here to help and will keep you informed of the constantly shifting schedule. So be sure to check out all of these helpful resources--early and often--at www.NFIB.com/politics.
