Help Defeat Government-Mandated Sick Leave: Share Your Story
11/12/2007

Small business owners value their employees and understand that we all have family obligations. Most small business owners provide flexible leave for family situations and do so in a way that meets the needs of both the employee and the business owner. The government should not mandate the benefit package you offer your employees. You and your employees know best how to shape the benefit package that best fits your workplace.

Earlier this year, Sen. Ted Kennedy (Mass.) introduced S.910, the "Healthy Families Act." This legislation requires small businesses that employ 15 or more workers to provide each employee with seven days of paid sick leave. The current law purposefully exempts businesses with fewer than 50 employees because it was passed with the understanding that inflexible, one-size-fits-all leave requirements would seriously undermine the economic viability of small business.

We strongly opposes S.910 and need your help to defeat this blatant political attempt to pacify big labor unions and give the government even more authority to meddle in your businesses. Small business owners, please help us stop this legislation by sharing your personal stories today!

At NFIB, we can collectively use your personal stories to propel the voice of small business to the forefront of this debate and influence the outcome of this legislation. Let's unite together to bypass political rhetoric and provide lawmakers with the human side of how mandated sick leave hurts small business.
