JACKSON, Miss. -- The National Federation of Independent Business, Mississippi's leading small-business advocacy group, today announced its endorsement of challenger Cory Wilson in House District 66.  Wilson, who practices law in the areas of business and commercial defense litigation, is opposing incumbent Cecil Brown.

"Cory Wilson is a great choice for his district because he understands the role of free enterprise in his community," NFIB/Mississippi State Director Ron Aldridge said. "NFIB members are backing Cory Wilson because he can be counted on to promote and protect their right to own, operate and grow their businesses."

Aldridge said Wilson supports an agenda that includes keeping taxes low, bolstering workforce development and protecting comprehensive tort reform passed in 2004.

"It is a great honor to have the support of small business in my effort to bring pro-growth leadership to the House," Wilson said. "NFIB knows that to make the most of Mississippi's moment in history, we need thriving small businesses. I'll work hard to make sure our business community can grow our economy."

NFIB's endorsement is a key one for Wilson. Small-business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB has pledged to Wilson that it will activate its grassroots network on his behalf.

Wilson is president of the Downtown Jackson Exchange Club and a board member of the Mississippi Economic Forum, MEC's Public Education Forum and the Mississippi Society for Disabilities. He previously served on the boards of Jackson 2000 and the SafeCity Initiative. House District 66 encompasses part of Hinds County. The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6.

NFIB's political support is based on the candidate's position and record on small-business issues. Cory Wilson's endorsement comes from the NFIB/Mississippi SAFE (Save America's Free Enterprise) Trust, the political action committee for NFIB/Mississippi's membership. The endorsement brings the considerable grassroots support of Mississippi's small-business owners to the Cory Wilson campaign.
