Protect Free Enterprise campaign helps small business get involved

Our political efforts are based on free enterprise principles and support for candidates who value those principles. To that end, we’ve launched the Protect Free Enterprise campaign, which harnesses the latest online technologies and other tools to promote our issues and political agenda in preparation for a broad national effort in 2008.

This fall, however, provides an opportunity to test this initiative where key races are in full gear: races for governor and state legislatures in Louisiana and Mississippi, and elections in New Jersey and Virginia that will determine control of those state legislatures, while there will be a gubernatorial election in Kentucky.

Embattled Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco announced in March that she would not seek a second term, and popular former U.S. Sen. John Breaux decided against entering the race, leaving 1st District Rep. Bobby Jindal the clear front-runner. Jindal faces state Sen. Walter Boasso, former state Sen. Foster Campbell and several others in an Oct. 20 open primary. If no one receives a majority, the top two vote-getters advance to a Nov. 17 runoff.

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour is favored to win reelection against trial lawyer John Arthur Eaves Jr. Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher faces a tough fight against former Lt. Gov. Steve Beshear.

All five states will begin early voting and/or absentee balloting this month. To get the latest updates on these five states, visit www.NFIB.com/politics.

At the same time, we invite you to lend your voice to our Protect Free Enterprise campaign by checking out our new site at www.NFIB.com/protectfreeenterprise.
