SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- John Kabateck, executive director of the National Federation of Independent Business/California, issued a statement today about Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's announcement of a pending veto on AB 8 and call for a special legislative session on health care:
"California small business applauds Governor Schwarzenegger for his announcement of a swift veto on Assembly Bill 8. The governor rightly recognizes that the employer mandate and tax that are cornerstones of AB 8 would inflict irreparable and irreversible damage on California small businesses.
"We also appreciate the governor's recognition that our state leaders must not rush health-care reform at the cost of addressing the real issue of affordability. Only when our elected officials begin to look at realistic approaches in the workplace as remedies, such as incentives and flexibility for the employer and employee, can we realistically address viable means for accessibility."
