Union Service Fee in Nebraska

Issue Overview: Pending legislation would require all non-union employees in a unionized workplace to pay "fair share" representation fees to labor organizations, if agreed upon by the union and the employer. Under the proposal, failure of an employee to pay the "fair share" fee would allow the labor organization to bring a court action against the non-union employee.

NFIB Position: NFIB opposes this legislation which would adversely impact the "right to work" provisions of the state constitution.

Issue Status: Legislation will be considered in 2008 (LB 57) that would require non-union employees to pay union service fees in a unionized workplace.

What to Do: Contact your state lawmakers through personal visit, phone call, letter, fax or e-mail.

What to Say: Urge your state senator to oppose LB 57 to avoid the imposition of union service fees on non-union employees.
