Workers' Compensation in Nebraska
Issue Overview: NFIB was active in supporting workers' compensation reform legislation a number of years ago, which eased the pressure on rising workers' compensation insurance premiums. Small-business employers suggest that their workers' compensation premiums are once again on the rise and that legislation to improve Nebraska's workers' compensation system is needed. In 2007, legislation was adopted that reduced hospital workers' compensation reimbursement levels.
NFIB Position: NFIB supports measures to reform the workers' compensation system, which will ease pressure on rising workers' compensation insurance premiums while providing reasonable benefits for injured employees.
Issue Status: A number of workers' compensation reform measures have been introduced in recent years. Issues supported by NFIB include revisions to the workers' compensation medical fee schedule designed to reduce medical provider reimbursement levels, utilization review of medical services on a retrospective, concurrent and prospective basis, penalties for failure to make prompt payment of medical bills, standardized billing forms and uniform medical reports.
