Sales Tax on Services in Nebraska

Issue Overview: In recent years, a sales tax on services has been considered as one of the ways to achieve state tax restructuring and business tax reform. While the economy is currently on the upswing and tax increases are not on the legislative "front burner," should the economy take a turn for the worse, there will no doubt be interest in expanding the services subject to the sales tax.

NFIB Position: NFIB opposes expansion of the sales tax on services.

Issue Status: Legislation to expand the services subject to the sales tax could be introduced in 2008.

What to Do: Contact your state lawmakers through personal visit, phone call, letter, fax or e-mail.

What to Say: Urge your state senator to oppose any expansion of the sales tax on services.
