WASHINGTON, D.C.--In a 51-48 vote, the U.S. Senate voted against consideration of the "Employee Free Choice Act," H.R. 800/S.1041, also known as card-check legislation (which passed the U.S. House in March). Dan Danner, NFIB's executive vice president, issued the following statement:
"The card-check bill might be dead for now, but the fight is far from over. Special-interest money will continue to pour in to influence Congress to pass this legislation in the future.
"Card check will always be a major threat to small businesses, who are targeted by union groups seeking to reverse the trends of their declining membership. Had this legislation moved forward, it would have left employees vulnerable to inevitable intimidation and misinformation campaigns, and would eliminate small-business owners entirely from the process.
"We are pleased with today’s outcome in the Senate but remain committed to fighting the blatant union agenda that threatens the very businesses fueling our country’s thriving economy."
