One of the Barometers the editorial board and staff of MyBusiness magazine uses to determine the stories we cover is a survey called Small-Business Problems and Priorities. Conducted every four years by the NFIB Research Foundation, the finished product is a list of 75 problems, ranked most challenging to least challenging by small-business owners.

NFIB uses the survey to help establish the organization's legislative and policy agenda. But not every daunting small-business problem can or will be solved in Congress. That's why in each issue of MyBusiness we feature resourceful small-business owners and the ways they creatively overcome challenges.

Sometimes the challenges are big--from finding affordable health care to fighting for tax relief--like the ones in this issue's "Handle the Headaches" feature. You can read about NFIB's work to fight these challenges in Washington, D.C., and in your state starting on page 25A. In fact, this issue marks the first edition of MyBusiness to include state news for readers in all 50 states. Readers everywhere can find out what NFIB is doing on their behalf in their own state capital--from Florida to Washington, Alaska to Hawaii, California to Maine.

When we tracked our two subjects in the "Day in the Life of a Small-Business Owner" feature, we were amazed at their limitless stores of energy, observing them as they rose before dawn and worked long past sundown to please customers, solve problems, make their voices heard in their communities and keep their businesses running smoothly. Just observing their tireless pace made us all exhausted by the time we sent this issue of the magazine to press.

But like all small businesses, we got up the next morning to start working on the next issue of MyBusiness, discovering and sharing more ways you can solve your problems and accomplish your priorities.
