The Healthcare Crisis and Small Business

For years, small business has faced higher healthcare premium increases than medium and large companies, in a marketplace where all premiums continue to rise much faster than inflation. The Small Business Coalition for Affordable Healthcare supports healthcare initiatives and policies that:

  • Employ market-based reforms to expand competition and choice in all markets for the purchase of private health insurance
  • Eliminate barriers to offering health insurance across state lines
  • Provide tax incentives to assist with the purchase of health insurance
  • Encourage the use of consumer-driven health products such as FSAs, HRAs and HSAs
  • Promote personal responsibly for healthcare--regardless of its source

The coalition has worked since 1995 to find solutions to the healthcare crisis that burden's America's small businesses, with legislation introduced from the 104th-Congress (mid-1990s) through today. Recent proposals include these bills from the 109th Congress.

The Small Business Coalition for Affordable Healthcare works to increase access and affordability of health insurance for the largest segment of the uninsured – small-business owners, employees, the self-employed and their dependents.
