Performance Review of State Government in Mississippi

Issue Status: Many states have now saved millions in taxpayer dollars by establishing a commission and utilizing knowledgeable personnel to review the efficiency of delivery of state services. SB 2981 by Sen. Billy Thames (Mize) and HB 1272 by newly elected Rep. Steven Palazzo (Biloxi) both died in the respective Appropriations committees on the Jan. 30 deadline.

NFIB Position: Support efforts to improve efficiency in government and get spending under control.

What to Do: Contact your legislators and request they add this process to the upcoming Appropriations bills.

What to Say: Vote for examining opportunities to make the government less costly and more efficient, particularly prior to looking at tax and fee increases. Share how your business has to live within its means; now it's time for government to do the same. This process has worked in several other states and saved multi-millions of state tax dollars. Commend them for their similar work last year on the specific government efficiencies obtained from cell phones and fleet management.
