Employee Benefit Reporting in Colorado
Issue Background: With the number of uninsured citizens growing, some argue that the state should be allowed to gather as much information as possible, including the employer of any applicant or a dependent child, for health-care benefits administered by the department of health-care policy and financing including, but not limited to, benefits provided pursuant to the "Colorado Medical Assistance Act" or any other uncompensated care.
Proponents say this action is necessary in order for the state to address the health care crisis in Colorado and for the purpose of determining why the Medicaid rolls continue to increase.
Opponents predict the state will use this information to establish a "hit list" of employers who may not be able to afford to provide health-care coverage to their employees, and would serve no other purpose than to embarrass employers.
