Sales Tax Discount in North Carolina

Issue Overview: Studies show the cost to small-business owners for collecting and remitting sales taxes to the state is significant, especially compared to large firms. Nearly half the states collecting sales tax reimburse business owners for their efforts.

NFIB Position: NFIB members support this measure because they believe they should be reimbursed for expenses incurred when collecting and remitting this tax to the state. Currently, small-business owners are unpaid tax collectors for the state.

Issue Status: NFIB will work with legislators who introduce a bill on this issue and will closely monitor it while working for its passage.

What to Do: Once a bill is introduced, NFIB will notify members to urge their lawmakers urging to support a sales-tax discount. Find your legislators at http://www.ncleg.net.

What to Say: Tell them small-business owners should be reimbursed because they are incurring expenses on behalf of the state and need relief.
