"I feel very strongly that small business is vital to provide jobs and services to our citizens. If not, then Wal-Mart will rule the world," said NFIB member and co-owner of Dietz, Futrell & Walters Insurance Inc., Rick Walters. "NFIB keeps me informed and allows small businesses to have a voice in the state and federal government."
Dietz, Futrell & Walters Insurance, Inc. first began in 1948; however, it was in July of 1992 that Walters became a co-owner. Dietz, Futrell & Walters Insurance, Inc. employs 18 individuals with two locations in Beverly and Marietta, Ohio. Because it is an independent insurance agent; Dietz, Futrell & Walters Insurance, Inc. is able to sell coverage from several different companies, which allows them to cater to the specific needs of their clients.
Walters first joined NFIB in 1984 because he had a deep interest in small-business reform legislation. Since joining, Walters has actively attended meetings and has helped to sponsor speakers to educate other small-business owners.
In addition to being a member of NFIB, Walters has also served as president for the Marietta Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Currently, he is a charter member of the Association of Health Insurance Advisors and a trustee for the Ohio Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.
Like many other small-business owners, Walters is concerned with the rising cost of health insurance and workers' compensation premiums. "Costs are going to eliminate several small businesses, because large businesses can spread the risk and reduce the costs of these benefits. We need to be creative in forming group rating systems to benefit small business," commented Walters.
"The best part of being a small-business owner is the freedom to pursue your dreams in the business world as well as at home," said Walters.
