Jerry Brewer Sr. started his business, Ohio Valley Door Corporation, Inc. in New Albany, Ind., in 1974 using the space and equipment of the bankrupt Tri-City Door Co.

"After struggling through our first year, Mollie Light joined the company and successfully managed it for the next 18 years," said Brewer.

Brewer stated that since its beginning as Ohio Valley Door, "The company has gone from 10 employees to 25, and from 7,500 square feet of factory space to 40,000 square feet." Now the company is in the hands of Brewer's youngest son Jerry, Jr., who serves as the president and general manager.

Ohio Valley Door Corporation, Inc. provides and manufactures high-quality flush veneered architectural wood doors generally used for commercial buildings. "This includes: mineral core fire-rated doors, 'holid-core' lightweight doors, particle core and lumber core doors, stile and rail doors, five-ply and seven-ply doors. Also doors with special 'sketch faces' and veneer-matched faces,'" said Brewer.

A member since 1995, Brewer was first attracted to NFIB because it allowed him to stay informed on legislation both at the state and federal level. Now, Brewer makes sure he is informed on the issues and supports pro-business candidates.

Brewer enjoys being a small-business owner because he likes the independence and challenges that come with it.

"It is rewarding, you can observe the results of your hard work, skills and efforts. You get to be a builder; leading as opposed to following," said Brewer.
