While Congress is home, let them know what issues are important to small business
Though the power in Congress changed in the recent midterm elections, the priorities of small business have not. Before the 110th Congress convenes in January, take time to meet your new lawmakers and let them know that you need their support of the small-business agenda.
Meeting with your lawmakers--both old and new--is a great way to ensure the new legislative session starts off with small-business priorities in mind. Let your lawmakers know specifically how Congress affects your business. Tell them that these solutions can make a positive impact on your business:
- Solutions that provide access to affordable, quality health care
- Permanent extension of small-business tax relief passed in recent years and tax code simplification
- Legal reform to protect small business from frivolous lawsuits
- Regulatory reform to ease complex, expensive and unnecessary burdens
If you don’t have the opportunity to meet in person, call, e-mail or fax your legislators while they are home and urge them to stand behind America's No. 1 job creator in the upcoming legislative session. Let them know that their support will help small-business owners bolster the economy by expanding their business and creating new jobs.
Contact your lawmakers today to set up a meeting. For newly elected lawmakers, try campaign offices until they have permanent quarters on Capitol Hill and district offices.
