Gone are the days of not having to check your luggage for an overnight business trip. Since last summer's foiled terrorist plot, getting through airports and security checkpoints has become even more of a time trap for business commuters who fly frequently. In response to the thwarted plot, the Transportation Security Administration banned most liquids, gels and aerosols from carry-on bags, including shampoo, toothpaste, perfume, lotion and hair gel. Though passengers are allowed to carry some travel-size toiletries, supplies must fit into one quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.
If one plastic bag isn't enough to tote all of the items you need to freshen up for an afternoon business meeting or last you through a one- or two-night stay, check out old-fashioned toiletries from Heavenly Harvest, a company that reproduces toiletry and cosmetic items from the 1850s to the 1900s. You'll find plenty of basic necessities to stock up on, including tooth powder--a dry form of toothpaste--shaving soap and lavender- or geranium-scented talcum powder that can substitute for deodorant in a pinch.
