It seems very likely that growing up around the construction business played a role in Jeff Dotseth's decision to enter the real estate business 22 years ago. He once lived in a setting where people built homes and office buildings, and now he lives in one where he sells them. Dotseth and his wife, Penny, are the successful owners of Jeff A. Dotseth & Associates Realty in Zimmerman, Minn. They employ 17 people and offer full real estate services for Central Minnesota, specializing in the Northwest Metro area. Dotseth's agency works with both buyers and sellers of residential property, land, commercial property, and new construction or development sites.
In 1998, Dotseth decided to join NFIB because he believed the organization was unique from other business organizations.
"I noticed that NFIB had a proactive approach to making changes that benefited the business community as a whole, and I wanted to be a part of that," Dotseth said.
As a member, Dotseth has recognized the many benefits of being a part of NFIB.
"I've gained more understanding of the legislative process and what changes are taking place to help independent-business owners become and remain successful. When our business had some challenges, I decided to become more active to try and make a difference," Dotseth said.
He is now the chair of his local Area Action Council and hopes he can help influence lawmakers to lessen the ever-growing cost of doing business and numerous regulations that hinder small businesses in Minnesota and around the country.
"I love being a small-business owner because I have the freedom to grow and try new things," Dotseth said.
