State Rep. and NFIB member Fulton Sheen (Plainwell) has proposed a new state tax to replace the single business tax, the personal-property tax and the state income tax.
In 2006, NFIB announced support for legislative and petition action to repeal the SBT. A successful petition drive allowed the Legislature to repeal the tax without the governor's approval. As a result of the legislative repeal, the single business tax will end effective Dec. 31, 2007. Debate has already begun over a replacement tax to the SBT. While the upcoming 2007 NFIB/Michigan State Member Ballot will determine the small-business position on any proposed replacement tax or taxes, state Rep. Sheen has proposed a new state tax to replace the Single Business Tax, the Personal Property Tax and the State Income Tax. An outline of this plan is presented here. Download his explanation today!
