Candidates Differ on Tax Relief
10/12/2006

The reelection race of U.S. Rep. Nancy Johnson has put pro-small-business tax relief center stage. Johnson, a member of the influential House Ways and Means Committee, has been a key author of tax credits, which help small business grow and compete.

"To help people increase jobs, we have to have wise, judicious and fair tax policy," Johnson said at the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce, according to the Danbury News-Times.

Johnson's opponent, state Sen. Chris Murphy, has announced his opposition to relief from the Alternative Minimum Tax, which was created to ensure the very wealthiest Americans pay taxes. However, because the AMT was never adjusted for inflation, it now affects many middle-income families. Murphy also indicated his opposition to a tax package that included expansion of small-business investment tax credits.
