U.S. Sen. George Allen has made his fight for real and lasting tax relief a central focus of his reelection strategy. As a member of the Senate, Allen has helped enact federal income-tax reform and small-business investment tax credits, and has fought for full repeal of the death tax.
According to the Washington Post, Democratic candidate James Webb has advocated the repeal of some of the tax cuts enacted in recent years, and opposes permanent repeal of the death tax. Webb has also declined to oppose tax increases, saying he could not make promises about specific situations.
The race between Allen and Webb is one of the closest in the country, and could determine who sets the economic and small-business agenda in Congress.
