MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The National Federation of Independent Business, Alabama's leading small-business advocacy group, has announced its endorsement of incumbent Harri Ann Smith (Slocomb) in Senate District 29. NFIB/Alabama State Director Rosemary Elebash made the announcement at an endorsement news conference yesterday in downtown Enterprise. Smith, an NFIB member and executive vice president for Slocumb National Bank, has been an outstanding advocate for small business in Montgomery, registering a 100 percent NFIB Voting Record from 2003 to 2006.

"Harri Ann Smith understands the serious threats to free enterprise and has been an unwavering supporter for small-business owners in District 29 and across Alabama," NFIB/Alabama State Director Rosemary Elebash said. "NFIB members know Harri Ann Smith can be counted on to promote and protect their right to own, operate and grow their businesses."

NFIB's endorsement is a key one for Smith. Small-business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB has pledged to Smith that it will activate its grassroots network on her behalf.

Smith serves on the following committees: Banking and Insurance, Health, Economic Expansion and Trade, and Finance and Taxation-General Fund. Senate District 29 encompasses Geneva County and part of Dale and Houston counties. The general election will be held Nov. 7.

NFIB's political support is based on the candidate's position and record on small-business issues. Harri Ann Smith's endorsement comes from the NFIB/Alabama SAFE (Save America's Free Enterprise) Trust, the political action committee for NFIB/Alabama's membership. The endorsement brings the considerable grassroots support of Alabama's small-business owners to the Harri Ann Smith campaign.
