Here are a few ways to make a difference among people you know:
Employees: Discuss how state and federal candidates affect the bottom line of your small business, and in turn, your employees' paychecks. Share NFIB voting records and use talking points to explain complex issues. Look in the "Get Political" section of www.NFIB.com/politics to watch NFIB's video for tips on how to talk to employees. And make sure you encourage employees to vote. Van de Putte offers employees shuttle service to voting sites during the early voting days.
Other Small-Business Owners: Not all independent-business owners are as well informed as NFIB members. Share what you know with your colleagues and remind them that every vote counts. Direct them to www.NFIB.com/join for the best way to protect their businesses' bottom lines.
Family and friends: Don't assume your family and friends know what you know. Tell them how lawmakers in your state capital and in Washington, D.C., directly affect your ability to earn a living.
