Bonnie Schwid is truly an inspiration to small-business owners. Not only is she an active NFIB member, but she is also the sole consultant at both offices of her business, Anagraphics, Inc., in Milwaukee and Chicago. Just recently she was appointed to Wisconsin's Small-Business Regulatory Review Board under Gov. James Doyle.

"This new appointment will allow me to apply my years of experience to ensure that the voice of small business is heard," said Schwid.

Anagraphics, Inc. has been incorporated since 1984. Since then it has been owned and operated solely by Schwid. Its main function is forensic document examination services.

"I am a consultant or expert witness for litigation attorneys and for security departments of financial institutions and other businesses," said Schwid. In addition, Anagraphics, Inc. presents informational seminars and workshops.

Schwid joined NFIB in 2000. She has found that NFIB has helped her realize how issues affects small businesses and to form a network with other small-business owners in similar situations. Since joining, Schwid has been attending meetings and speaking on issues she feels will have adverse effects on small businesses.

"I believe that it is important to carefully review the issues coming before congress or the state legislature that affects small business," commented Schwid.

Like most small-businesses owners, Schwid enjoys the independence of owning her own business: "I have a choice about how much I want to work, and I have some freedom to travel."

Schwid is looking to expand Anagraphics, Inc. so that when she retires the company and reputation that she has worked so hard to build up will not end.

"By expanding, I would be able to spread the work load and even develop some additional interests," Schwid said. "But I am in a highly specialized field, so expansion takes planning and joining the best people."
