Act Now to Drive the Vote
09/08/2006

As voter registration deadlines approach, remind the small-business community of the chance to be heard

With Election Day less than two months away, voter registration deadlines are looming. Even if you're already registered to vote and have researched which candidates support small business, others might not be as prepared. Over the next few weeks, spread the word among friends, family members and colleagues about their opportunity to make the voice of small business heard at the polls.

As an NFIB member, you have access to many resources that can help you prepare for Election Day. Be sure to remind others of your state's deadline to register to vote, and let them know that if they can't cast their ballot on Election Day they can do so early or by absentee ballot. Check NFIB's election calendar for all of your state's important election deadlines.

The decisions made in Washington affect small-business owners across the country--and their employees and families, too. Informing the entire small-business community of the importance of electing pro-small-business candidates is crucial to your business, and ultimately to the American economy.

Coming soon to NFIB.com, the How Congress Voted report will let you review which lawmakers have voted for or against legislation benefiting small business, and will help you decide who deserves your support at the polls. Share this information with the people around you, reminding them that a vote for a small-business advocate is a vote for their community.

If you are hesitant about discussing political issues with your employees, NFIB's Educating Your Employees manual (link) can give you the tools to best communicate small-business issues within your workplace. A video with advice from other small-business owners is available as well (link.)
