Rep. Julia Howard, who represents Davie County and a portion of Iredell County, is an accomplished NFIB member. She's a Guardian of Small Business winner and member of NFIB's state Leadership Council. Howard, who last week was named the American Legislative Exchange Council's Legislator of the Year, is shown speaking to members at NFIB/North Carolina's Small-Business Day at the Capital in 2005 with NFIB/North Carolina State Director Gregg Thompson and Rep. Rick Eddins (Wake).

NFIB/North Carolina members have known for years Rep. Julia Howard (Mocksville) is a great friend of small business. The longtime NFIB member and nine-term legislator is a Guardian of Small Business winner, as well as a member of NFIB/North Carolina's Leadership Council.

You can now add national "Legislator of the Year" to her long list of accomplishments. Last week, the American Legislative Exchange Council so honored Howard at its 33rd annual meeting in San Francisco. ALEC called Howard "a leader who truly personifies the Jeffersonian principles of liberty and limited government."

"Julia Howard cherishes free enterprise and goes the extra mile for small business," NFIB/North Carolina State Director Gregg Thompson said. "She understands the challenges of independent small-business owners because she is one, and her recent national recognition is no surprise to North Carolina entrepreneurs."

Howard is a real estate agent who serves as co-chair of the House Committee on Finance. Last year at NFIB/North Carolina's Small-Business Day at the Capital, she encouraged small-business owners to run for office, saying the only realistic way to change things in Raleigh is to elect more pro–small-business legislators.

The nonpartisan American Legislative Exchange Council counts more than 2,400 legislator members from all 50 states and 96 alumni members serving in the U.S. Congress.
