Alvin Preiser Speaks Loudly on Small-Business Issues

As a 10-year member of NFIB/West Virginia, Alvin Preiser says he appreciates NFIB's ability to raise public awareness about small-business issues and support legislation that will positively affecting small businesses.

"I joined NFIB because I wanted the voice of small business to be heard, especially on taxes, health care, legal reform and workers' compensation issues," said Preiser.

Among Preiser's main concerns are the death tax and various other state and federal taxes, along with tort reform and health care. Preiser is particularly active in supporting NFIB activities and in supporting activist initiatives that shed light on the issues that affect his business.

Preiser owns Preiser Scientific, Inc., which distributes laboratory equipment, chemicals and supplies from its main office in St. Albans, W.Va., as well as a distribution center the company maintains in Louisville, Ky. Formed in 1924, Preiser Scientific, Inc. today employs 40 workers to help distribute scientific instruments, microgrippers, coal testing and water analysis equipment. 

Preiser works with more than 2,000 worldwide vendors to supply over 100,000 different items. In addition, Preiser Scientific, Inc. also manufactures and distributes a number of specialty coal testing products In all, Preiser Scientific serves customers around the globe from the U.S., Canada and Mexico, to Europe and South America, as well as China, India, and Pakistan, Japan and Russia..

"The best part of being a small-business owner is meeting the challenges of running a small business and accepting the challenges of competition and the 'information age technologies' to further business growth," said Preiser.
