In 1985, Barbara Quandt decided to start a travel business. She began her training when she was eight months pregnant. The day she opened the business she went into labor. But she was back at work soon after the baby was born.
Involvement with NFIB and its issues became a springboard to her second business: a public-relations firm specializing in crisis management, environmental matters and government relations. In 2005, she moved to a position with Quality Environmental Professionals. She still has her government-affairs business.
She chaired the NFIB/Indiana Leadership Council for nine years and last fall, Indiana's lieutenant governor presented her the Distinguished Hoosier Awardone of the highest honors given Indiana citizensfor dedication and service to small business.
She actively lobbies the state General Assembly on behalf of small business, is a frequent participant in NFIB news conferences, and was an elected delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Small Business.
