NFIB National Small-Business Summit, Leadership Trust Meeting Open Today

Sunday marks the opening of both the NFIB National Small-Business Summit and the NFIB Leadership Trust annual meeting, and hundreds of small-business owners are uniting at the nation's capital for several days of activism, lobbying and learning.

NFIB kicks off the Summit Sunday night with Summit Fest, featuring entertainment by The Fabulous Hubcaps, but members get down to business first thing Monday morning at the opening session featuring NFIB President and CEO Todd Stottlemyer as the keynote speaker.

Over the next two days, small-business owners from across the country will attend business- and policy-related breakout sessions and will hear from a variety of well-known political and economic experts, including Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, NBC News Chief White House Correspondent David Gregory and eBay CEO Meg Whitman and several members of Congress.

Tuesday, Summit delegates will take the voice of small business to Capitol Hill, meeting face-to-face with their lawmakers to let them know how decisions in Washington affect small businesses everywhere.

The NFIB Leadership Trust, an exclusive group of business leaders who support NFIB's efforts to elect pro–small-business candidates and educate voters about our issues, holds its annual meeting in conjunction with the Summit. The meeting features several prominent speakers and critical political and economic briefings.

Political commentator Mary Matalin keynotes the Sunday Leadership Trust event, and Wednesday's speakers include U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole, N.C., Lieutenant Gov. of Maryland Michael Steele and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
