NFIB Campaign for Small-Business Health Plans Makes The New York Times
05/08/2006

NFIB's current grassroots and media campaign to pass Small-Business Health Plans into law is attracting lots of attention—and not just on Capitol Hill.

Though the real test will come most likely on Thursday, when the Senate is expected to vote on S. 1955, to authorize SBHPs, The New York Times says NFIB is already a "force" in D.C.

In an 1100-word article in last Thursday's paper, the Times described a meeting between NFIB President Todd Stottlemyer and NFIB activists in Virginia who were gearing up for the SBHP fight. It also gave background on the long battle for fairness in the health-insurance market, where big business and unions currently wield far greater buying power than individual small businesses. Forced by Byzantine state regulations into a choice between purchasing exorbitant policies or foregoing coverage, many small businesses and their employees do without.

As NFIB and its members fight to level the playing field, the grassroots and media campaign will continue through the vote.
