New Hampshire 2006 Legislative Agenda

Double Minimum Pay

Issue Overview: HB 1138 would double the mandatory minimum pay for employees called in to work to four hours' pay. It currently is two hours.

NFIB Position: NFIB members oppose increasing the required minimum pay, especially since companies such as health-care providers would pay their employees, but the company will not be reimbursed by insurers or government payers if services are not needed.

Issue Status: Bill was amended in the House Labor Committee to increase the minimum from two to three hours rather than four hours. Sponsor has expressed a willingness to consider a health-care exemption.

What to Do: Call your House members and urge them to defeat this legislation.
