After a key Senate committee’s passage of Small-Business Health Plan legislation last month, NFIB and small-business owners are gearing up for the full Senate vote, expected in early May.
The 11-9 committee vote in favor of S. 1955 was a huge step forward, but there is still work to be done to ensure the Senate realizes the importance of SBHPs to small-business owners and employees. NFIB is calling on you to help fight for this vital legislation for affordable health care. How you can help:
Write Your Senators
Urge your senators to vote “YES” to S. 1955, the Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordability Act of 2005. Tell them that small businesses need SBHPs to be able to provide health insurance to employees. Unions and large corporations have access to affordable health care—so should small businesses. Go to www.NFIB.com/SBHPAlert to fax a letter to your senators today.
E-Mail a Friend
Spread the word to other small-business owners, friends and family. Let them know the importance of SBHPs to small business, and the importance of small business to the country. Send them the link to www.NFIB.com/SBHPAlert and other links to SBHP information found on NFIB.com and SBHPsNow.com, and encourage them to forward the information on as well.
Contact the Media
Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper or call your local radio or television station to tell them about SBHPs. Remind them that health-care costs are one of the biggest burdens on small businesses today, and as costs continue to rise many small-business owners are forced to discontinue benefits altogether. SBHPs would level the playing field and give small employers access to the same plans enjoyed by big businesses and labor unions.
Join Our Fight
Are you a member of an organization that would be interested in joining the 200-member Coalition Supporting Access & Choice Through Small-Business Health Plans? Representing more than 12 million employers and 80 million workers, this coalition supports affordable health-care access for small business.
