Brian Landon, owner of Landon's Car Wash and Laundry in Canton, Bradford County, has been named the 2006 Pennsylvania Small-Business Champion by the National Federation of Independent Business.
"Brian Landon has been a tireless advocate for the small-business community and the cause of free enterprise," said Kevin Shivers, NFIB/Pennsylvania state director. "Brian has testified before Congress and the state legislature on issues such as OSHA and economic regulations, lawsuit abuse reform, health care and taxation."
Shivers noted that Landon has been especially involved in the NFIB's Young Entrepreneur Foundation scholarship program where high school seniors who could be the next generation of entrepreneurs can receive financial assistance for college.
"Few NFIB members have invested as much time and energy to support next-generation small-business owners as Brian Landon," Shivers said. "In addition to his strong financial support of NFIB's Young Entrepreneur Foundation scholarship program, each spring Brian takes time to recruit new students to apply for the program and helps evaluate the student applications. Brian also donates his keen business acumen two weeks each year to teach high school students how to run a business during the summertime Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week program. And he's used his real-life business experiences to help shape education policy as a member of the state House Task Force on Rural Education. He has a record of service that all of us can be proud of."
A 30-year NFIB member, Landon has been a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business, the White House Economic Forum in Waco, Texas, in 2002, and was appointed by the Pennsylvania speaker to the Pennsylvania House Taskforce on Rural Education.
Landon has also served on the Canton Borough Council, the Bradford County Planning Commission and the Canton Borough Water and Serer Authority. He also is a volunteer with the Missionaries of Charity.
Landon is a member of NFIB's state Leadership Council. He served as chairman of the group in 2000. The 20-member state leadership council serves in an advisory capacity to the state and national organization.
The Small-Business Champion award is presented annually in all 50 states by NFIB, the nation's largest small-business advocacy organization, to recognize those business owners who go the extra mile for Main Street businesses.
