COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The National Federation of Independent Business, South Carolina's leading small-business advocacy group, today named Alan Epley, president of Southern Glass and Plastics Company, its 2006 Small-Business Champion in South Carolina. Gov. Mark Sanford presented Epley with the award yesterday at a small-business roundtable meeting in Columbia.
An NFIB member since 1992, Epley chairs NFIB/South Carolina's Leadership Council, which advises the organization on public-policy initiatives impacting small business, and is a founding member of NFIB's Lowcountry Area Action Council, a small-business grassroots activist group in Charleston.
"Alan Epley can always be counted on to speak up for small business," NFIB/South Carolina lobbyist Joe Jones said. "He is a passionate and persistent small-business advocate and greatly desires for small business to compete on a level playing field. Alan's legislators know where he stands on small-business issues, which helps educate them as they weigh important public policy."
Epley is a member of NFIB/South Carolina's Leadership Trust, which backs pro–small-business candidates. He is a contributor to NFIB's Young Entrepreneur Foundation, which provides budding entrepreneurs with financial backing, and is a frequent contact for the media on small-business issues.
The Charleston resident is also president of the South Carolina Glass Association, and a member of other local and national groups. His business, Southern Glass and Plastics Company, has numerous locations in South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina.
