Healthcare in Maryland
Issue Overview: Employers and employees are again faced with double-digit increases on their healthcare insurance premiums. NFIB remains committed to supporting legislation that seeks to provide relief and will oppose legislation that seeks to add additional cost to the healthcare delivery system.
NFIB Position: Specifically:
- Oppose legislation that seeks to establish a government-run health care system paid for by the establishment of a new payroll tax.
- Oppose any additional mandates that will add costs to an already unaffordable small group market.
- Support legislation/and new regulations that provides additional choices and options in the small group market.
Issue Update: SB 65 Health Insurance -- Small Group Market -- Coverage of Child Dependents introduced by Sen. Jim Brochin would require the Maryland Health Care Commission to include child dependent coverage as a mandated offering. The bill was heard on Jan. 23 in the Senate Finance Committee. No Vote has been taken.
NFIB attends both the House and Senate workgroups on healthcare reform and participates as needed, in particular voicing opposition to new policies that increase costs to the small-group market.
