Maryland 2008 Legislative Agenda

Workers' Compensation in Maryland

Issue Overview: The rising cost of workers' compensation insurance is a steady and growing concern for Maryland's small business community. The premium increases are due to rises in medical costs and permanent partial disability awards, despite decreases in the frequency and severity of workplace injuries.

NFIB Position: NFIB will be supporting the passage of workers' compensation legislation and/or regulations to create the reforms needed to control claims costs. One such proposal will be to establish some utilization review controls on the medical care for injured employees.

Issue Status: No legislation has been introduced to date.
